Business Continuity

Backup and disaster recovery

We test restores, not backup status. You finish onboarding knowing what can be recovered, how long it takes, and what a real incident would cost you.

The three questions a backup cannot answer

Almost every organisation has backups running. Very few can answer these:

  • How long does a full restore take? Not the backup window — the restore, with your actual data volumes and your actual internet connection
  • What comes back first? If everything is down, the order matters enormously, and it should be your clinical or gaming system rather than whatever the tool happens to start with
  • When was the last real restore? A green dashboard confirms a job ran. It does not confirm the data is complete, uncorrupted or reachable

What we put in place

  • Layered copies — local for speed, offsite for disaster, and an immutable copy that cannot be deleted inside its retention window
  • Separated credentials, so an attacker with your domain admin cannot reach the backups
  • Documented RPO and RTO per system, agreed with you rather than inherited from a default
  • A recovery runbook naming the order, the dependencies and who does what
  • Scheduled test restores, with a written result and a date
  • A recovery test report at day 90 of onboarding, and on a cycle after that

Continuity is broader than backup

Restoring data is necessary but not sufficient. If the internet connection is the single point of failure, or the phone system dies with the power, or nobody knows how to take payments manually, then the data coming back does not get you trading or delivering care.

Continuity planning under NEVO covers the whole path back to operating: failover connectivity, communications, the manual fallback procedures, and who is told what. A plan nobody has rehearsed is a document, not a capability.

Common questions

How often should we test a restore?

At minimum annually, and after any material change to the environment. We do one during the first ninety days so there is a real baseline rather than an assumption.

Are backups included in the monthly fee?

The management, monitoring and testing are. Storage and any third-party backup licensing are pass-through costs, quoted transparently — we do not mark up licences and then describe them as included.
